The story of the creation of SIFUS is closely linked to that of SoniModul, a small clinic set up in 2010 by Dr. Jeanmonod, one of the main pioneers of MRgFUS, who together with Drs. Ernst Martin and Beat Werner published the first MRgFUS study in functional neurosurgery in 2009, in order to develop and bring patients the benefits of innovative MRgFUS technology at a time when very few people were interested in it. Sonimodul has thus been able to set many milestones in the history of MRgFUS, and in Switzerland in particular, with the setting up of a national registry for the indications of Parkinson's, essential tremor and chronic neuropathic pain, in order to have MRgFUS recognized as a treatment recognized and covered by all Swiss insurance companies. SIFUS was created by the former SoniModul team after its founder retired in 2024.
